The Western Ghats Biosphere is a biodiversity hotspot of global significance. This region is recognized for its unique flora and fauna, with over 500 species of birds, 139 species of mammals, and countless endemic plant species. Spanning over 240 square kilometers, the sanctuary is a crucial part of the Western Ghats, which is one of the eight “hottest hotspots” of biological diversity in the world. However, this area faces significant conservation challenges. Deforestation, habitat fragmentation, and water scarcity threaten the delicate ecosystems. Additionally, climate change exacerbates these issues, leading to altered rainfall patterns and increased temperatures. Conservation efforts are vital to preserving this irreplaceable natural heritage, ensuring the survival of its diverse species and the well-being of local communities who depend on its resources.
