While exploring Goa’s lush hinterland or relaxing in your cottage at Nature’s Nest, you’ll experience an intricate system of sustainable practices that most guests never see. Not just a few, but several eco-friendly systems are hard at work—conserving water, reducing waste, and supporting local communities. From the food we serve to the water you drink, discover how your perfect getaway benefits the environment, ticking every box for the eco-conscious traveller.
Our sustainable story begins with the very cottages you sleep in. Built with locally-sourced materials that capture the authentic spirit of the Western Ghats, our ten rooms reduce carbon footprints while supporting local artisans and industries.
All lighting is LED-based, dramatically reducing our energy consumption. Our water systems, from rainwater harvesting, to minimizing negative impact of waste water by using eco-friendly cleaning agents: we work with nature rather than against it, preserving Goa’s precious water resources. All our cleaning agents are eco friendly so that the ground and water bodies don’t get polluted.
We offer filtered water stations where you can refill your reusable water bottles. These seemingly small choices add up to significant environmental protection. Though, you have the option of purchasing a mineral water bottle, we encourage you to use a refillable bottle instead.
The water stations are not just for you. There are water stations also made for the birds around. During the afternoons, birds from the surrounding areas land here to recharge themselves and it’s a feast for the eyes to watch them. Guests who have chosen guided wildlife packages can also visit other water stations located away.
The farm-to-table movement isn’t just a trend at Nature’s Nest—it’s our way of life. Our on-site organic gardens supply our kitchens with vibrant, pesticide-free produce, whereas a large part of the other 80% of our additional ingredients come from the surrounding villages. This means most probably, the banana in your Raw-banana Raite, has been picked from our very own backyard.
Our seasonal menus celebrate what the earth provides naturally, allowing you to taste the authentic flavours of Goa across the changing seasons. In summer, savour dishes featuring jackfruit, kokum, and fresh fish from nearby waters. During monsoon season, experience the earthy flavours of mushrooms, tender bamboo shoots. You have the option to also relish the locally raised free-range chicken prepared with traditional Goan spices.
Perhaps our most meaningful sustainability effort is our investment in local communities, not just our surroundings but also our staff. As Damini, one of our local team members, notes: “Working at Nature’s Nest has changed how I think about waste even in my own home. What I’ve learned here, I teach to my children.”
This ripple effect multiplies our environmental impact far beyond our property lines. When you chat with our staff about local wildlife or traditional farming practices, you’re speaking with neighbours who have deep connections to this land and are becoming environmental ambassadors in their own communities.
Our sustainability journey continues to evolve. We’re currently exploring solar energy options to further reduce our carbon footprint and investigating new water recycling systems that will make us even more self-sufficient during dry seasons.
By choosing to stay at Nature’s Nest, you’re not just booking a vacation – you’re joining a movement that proves hospitality and sustainability can beautifully coexist.
